Comparing removalist quotes
How to Compare Removalist Quotes Before You Book
Compare removalist quotes using the same inventory, addresses, access details and service requirements. Check the pricing basis, labour, transport, packing, extra charges and booking terms. A lower headline price may cover less work, while a higher price may include services you would otherwise need to arrange separately.
Give each removalist the same information
A meaningful comparison begins before the quote arrives. Send each provider the same furniture list and estimated box count, along with photographs of bulky items and difficult access.
Include pickup and delivery addresses, stairs, lift availability, loading restrictions and your preferred dates. If you are moving interstate, disclose any flexibility in collection and delivery separately. A flexible collection date does not necessarily mean you can accept a flexible delivery date.

Check exactly what is being quoted
Look for a description of the work rather than a price alone. Does it include loading and unloading at both addresses? Are packing, materials, dismantling and reassembly included, excluded or subject to assessment?
If storage is needed, check whether the quote covers collection, storage, handling and eventual delivery. Keep these components visible so the combined cost is clear.
Understand the pricing basis
For hourly work, ask about minimum booking periods, billing increments, crew size and travel charges. A lower hourly rate can produce a different total if the time or inclusions differ.
For a fixed quote, confirm the inventory and access assumptions it relies on. Ask how extra items, changed addresses, delays or additional services would be priced. Make sure the final document includes GST treatment and any agreed changes.

Ask about dates and service arrangements
Check whether you are agreeing to an arrival time, an arrival window or a collection day. For interstate work, distinguish estimated transit time from the delivery commitment in the booking.
If shared transport or backloading is proposed, ask how collection and delivery are coordinated. Read our backloading guide before deciding whether that arrangement suits your schedule.
Clarify protection and booking terms
Ask for an explanation of the applicable insurance or protection arrangements, including exclusions and the process for raising a concern. Do not assume that public liability insurance means every household item is covered for every type of loss.
Read cancellation, postponement, payment and additional-work terms before paying a deposit. If a condition is unclear, request a written explanation.
Choose on service as well as price
A useful quote should help you understand what will happen and what you need to do. For broader provider checks, read our guide to choosing a reliable Sydney removalist.
